I learned a lot about value and painting techniques. I learned that there is no true one color. You mix and layer different colors to make a more value and dimension in your painting. Even though this is not my best painting, I like the background and the different mixture of colors. I need to work on my shading.
This assignment was pretty difficult to say the least. My architectural piece was the Bhutan Tigers Nest. I like working with clay, but we used techniques I have never used before. I don't have a picture because unfortunately my piece exploded in the kiln. From this project I learned a lot about backgrounds and foreground, middle ground, and background. I also learned a lot about architecture and all the different amazing architecture seen around the world.
I think this project was my favorite project so far. It allowed us to take our imaginations and run with them. Even though it took quite a long time, I liked the challenge. I think it made me realize how much patients you need to have to do art. I think I like all the repetition and pattern to my piece. I like seeing the final product. I wish I did some sort of time lapse to see my progress each day or week.
This project was something a lot different than what we have been doing in previous assignments. It was a little more graphic and comic-like than other pieces. I wanted the letters to represent something. They are earth, air, water, and fire. I noticed that some people went for letters they liked the shape of. I realize now that I like when my pieces have a meaning or reason behind them and this project helped me realize that.
In this artist trading card project I learned a lot about mistakes and how they can turn out to be better than what you expect. The right trading card is what I was planning on doing except it didn't turn out the way I pictured it. The left trading card I actually like better. It wasn't suppose to be a trading card, it was just to help me see the different lines in my thumb. I like the variation in shades. Even if it was a mistake, I think it showed me that not everything will turn out the way you expect it to turn out. This project was very interesting and I learned a lot about mistakes and end products.
I liked this assignment a lot. I used the inspiration of maps to create a brain inside a human head. I liked keeping, and even enhancing, the lines and angles. Again, I like emphasizing straight lines. I loved drawing the angles to. It seemed like a mathematical piece or one of Da Vinci's work. I also made a little more personal by putting Millis as part of the brain. I did have a little difficulty making the nose and mouth proportional, but overall I think this piece was a successful representation of the assignment.
After doing this assignment, I have learned so much about still life drawings. I learned how to draw for life, which i thought was pretty difficult to do. My two mediums are Conti crayon for the part of the mask that is on the white and chalk pastels on the parts that have the black in the background. I had to make sure the shading was right each time I started drawing again. I learned that the dark values should very prominent.I also learned how to use pointillism so creating a 3-d effect, as if the mask is sticking out at you. I also learned a lot about myself as an artist. I learned that I like having a least a little bit of order to my pieces. I feel as if I am building my own qualities as an artist.
In this assignment I used Conte Crayon to create a still life of a pepper. I learned how to use Conte Crayon and found out the different pros and cons of using Conte Crayon (not too many cons!). I also got more experience with still life. I had to use a limited amount of colors which forced me to form different values.
For this projects I used watercolors for the background and sharpies for the bunch of lavender. Through this piece I have learned a lot on how to use watercolors. I learned how to control my brush and how to control the value of the paint. I actually began with a different piece, but I didn't think it had enough unity throughout the paper. So, I started over. I realized that I am a bit of a perfectionist. This realization can help me grow as an artist. This was a very free spirited assignment/challenge. We were to use a limited amount of balloons to try to build a stable structure as tall as we could. This tested our abilities to think of structure. It was surprising to realize that most groups didn't think about the colors of the balloons, but just how tall it was. It was a fun activity to get our creative minds started.
